Influence of Culture Different on Bussiness Communication

In my opinion,there are man differences between China and western countries.It derive from the differences of history and custom.It bring lots of misunderstanding in business exchanging.although it exaggerates the gap between china and western countries when people say that the moon in foreign countries is rounder than in china,there are still a huge differences.By no means,can it not be solved.Actually,we can strength our communication to learn and understand each others.

For instance,Chinese people are not accustomed to express their ideas directly, but to use the euphemism, tortuous way to express. Han nationality affected by Confucian ideas is modest, introverted and conservative. This is unlike European and American national export and lively personality. In France, for example, a perfume advertisement: “The one drop is to the beauty, two drop is for the lover, three drop is enough to lead to one love affair.”

French people think that this expression is very romantic and attractive, but Chinese consumers think it hard to accept this extreme expression. Three drops can bring a love is fast open. Chinese people are conservative and cautious. They believe down-to-earth do not believe that asking for the moon. So the instant love more difficult to accept.

Chinese culture is known to family peace and harmonious, this is consistent with the physical environment, and this is related closely to the past several thousand years of self-sufficiency family’s economy systems. For example, the “Confucian Temple home wine” ads “home state” (Li, 2002:10). Its ads creativity is from their wine name “home wine Confucian Temples” (Li, 2002:20) in “home”. Chinese and Western culture have different gender image position, this can be found in ads language. Two thousands traditional Confucian ideology influences Chinese idea, the concept of Chinese women has been defined within the framework of gentle graciousness. Thus, in the ads, female models are basically the front feminine beauty. If ads creativity wants to show the performance of lofty aspiration, it will do through man to express generally. To list the example of alcohol ads, in the long course of several thousand years of China history, it seems that alcohol is only the matter for man to express his emotion. In Chinese alcohol ads, a lot of that background is ancient warrior uniform and they carouse do as their pleases, displayed the heroic mettle.

As the differences of natural environment, economic levels and national development history, each nation has its own unique and accustomed lifestyle. For example: Chinese and Japanese use chopsticks to dine, Westerners use forks. Chinese people like to invite guests and give gifts, and the Westerners rarely entertain guests at home. The national holiday is an important component of national customs and traditions. Each nation has its own traditional method of celebrating festival. Regional differences between countries created colorful cultures, includes people's thoughts and actions. So, people from different areas may have many ways of emotional expression. As well as the concept of space and distance. That’s why he refuse to hug the women and caused the conflicting emotions. However, people of America would rather hug each other to express their emotions. It’s a normal phenomenon that men and women touched each other a lot and most people hugged each other good-bye at the end of the party. But they should understand each other's behaviors and cultural differences. Chen Qing, who is in America should understand American culture and remember “when in Rome, do as the Romans do.”

In all aspects of life, be it religion, music, art or medicine, Chinese are totally different from westerners, in fact poles apart, and trying to compare these two cultures is like comparing day with night. Not all things western are good, and not all things Chinese are bad. It is a question of perspective, beliefs and values. One should learn to appreciate the differences between the Chinese and Western culture to be better able to understand these differences.

As far as religion is concerned, Chinese beliefs are rooted in Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, all of which believe in equality of all creatures. It is through learning that man can become better. On the other hand, Western religions (read Christianity) believe in superiority of human beings over other animals and here too people can become better if they control their sinful actions and thoughts.

Family is the backbone of Chinese culture and members live together or close by. On the other hand, family is mostly nuclear in nature in the west and people are not generally concerned with uncles and aunts whereas in China people help and support each other which is why there is greater bonding between family members. In comparison, young adults in the west make lots of friends that change with time and they see their family members only on festivals and holidays.

The Chinese system of education is rigid and it suppresses creativity according to western analysts. But Chinese place great importance to education and this is why China has today become the largest economy in the world, overtaking the US.

Though education is equally important in the US, here emphasis is placed upon the liking of kids and the interest they show in particular subjects that is more important. Chinese have a holistic approach to life and believe in healthy eating whereas taste matters a lot to westerners and they keep eating and cooking art separate from general approach to life. Chinese culture places more importance to collective gains whereas western culture places emphasis to individual achievements and encourage entrepreneurship.

Chinese are warm and friendly people that go out of their way to help strangers whereas if you are a stranger in the west, do not expect people to bail you out when facing any difficulty.

The philosophies of the Chinese and western countries are totally different in their approach. While westerners believe in hard work and dedication to achieve personal goals and happiness, Chinese believe that it is through inner peace that real bliss and happiness can be achieved. Westerners equate happiness with material achievements whereas it is not so in China.

There are vast differences in cooking, eating habits, system of medicine, traditions and customs, greeting, meeting and showing love and affection in Chinese and Western cultures that reflect the values and belief systems of the two cultures. If one has to sum up differences between China and the west, it has to be the difference in emphasis on individualism and collectivism.
