1 九年级上学期:

It has been two years since we went to the Great Wall. But it is still fresh in my mind.

It was sunny and I went to the Great Wall with my parents. I thought we would enjoy ourselves that day. However, soon after we got there, I hurt my right foot. I couldn’t move any more and I felt sad. A few minutes later, my father decided to put me on his back and went on. After we finished all the things in our plan, I saw a big smile on my father’s face although he looked tired.

I was deeply moved by my father. It makes me think that love is the best thing in the world.

Spring Festival is the most popular festival in China. It happens every year, but not on the same day. We usually have a seven-day holiday.

Spring Festival is celebrated from the evening before it. It is a time for a traditional dinner with dumplings among family. While we are waiting for the coming of the new year, we usually watch a special TV programme. As soon as it’s 12 o’clock, we usually shout loudly, “Happy Spring Festival!” and set off fireworks. On the day of Spring Festival, we get up early to visit our friends or do something else.

Dr Norman Bethune was born in 1890 in Canada. He became a doctor in 1916 and in 1938, during the Anti-Japanese War, he came to China to treat the Chinese wounded soldiers. He had to work hard on his own because there were few doctors at that time. Once, he even worked for 69 hours without stopping, and managed to save over a hundred lives. One day in 1939, he cut his finger during an operation, but he continued his work without treating it. In the end, he died of his wound.

Dr. Bethune’s work for the Chinese people made him a hero in China. There are many books and films about him, and he is still remembered in both China and Canada today.

Everyone may have the experience of staying at home alone while his or her parents are out.

I have the experience last year. One day, both of my parents went away on business, so I had to stay at home alone. I went to school and came back home as usual. I cooked dinner for myself, did my homework carefully, and went to bed on time. When my parents came back, they were happy to see I was able to take good care of myself!

I think we shouldn’t depend too much on our parents, but learn to stand on our own f eet. Nothing is impossible if we try our best.

Dear Tom,

I think it’s usual for us to have some problems in our school life. Most of us don’t like strict teachers. But in my opinion, all the teachers want their students to be as good as they can. So we should understand(理解) them first and do as a student should do.

In order to be a good student and make great progress, you’d better have a talk with our Chinese teacher and tell her it is not good to be too strict(太严格) with the students. Then, why don’t you try your best to listen to her carefully in class and finish your homework as well as possible(尽可能的好) after school? I believe you will find the good points of our Chinese teacher soon and get good marks in the exams.

Best wishes!

Hello, everyone. I’m glad to introduce my favourite book to you. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is my favourite book. It is written by the famous writer Mark Twin.

Tom, the hero of the book, is lovely and clever. He runs away to an island with his friend Huck Finn to look for treasure(寻找宝藏). My favourite part of the book is the moment when everyone thinks Tom is dead. He goes to his own funeral(葬礼), hides(隐藏) and watches for a time and then suddenly appears(出现).

It tells some exciting stories about a boy who has many adventures. It tells how young people grow, how people love each other and how bad people pay for(为……支付) their actions(动作). It is written in everyday English, and the dialogues(对话) sound especially(尤其) real (真的).

Today the book is still read and loved by people all over the world. It is thought(被认为) to be one of the greatest books in American literature(文学).

As a sports hero, Liu Xiang is well-known all over the world. He is famous for the 110m hurdles(跨栏跑). He was born on July 13th, 1983 and he started training when he was very young. Every day he worked hard and has made quick progress(进步).

In 2001, he won his first international(国际的) 110m hurdles race(跨栏赛跑) in Japan. In 2004, he won the first Olympic gold medal for China in the 110m hurdles race and at the same time broke the Olympic Games record (记录). From 2008 on, he suffered a lot from his foot problem, but he did not give up. He is still a symbol of courage(勇气) and success, and we continue to take great pride in him.

Internet shopping(网上购物) is a new way of shopping. It seems that it is becoming more and more popular. It really has a lot of advantages. The most important one is convenience (便利). You can shop whenever you like as the online shops are open 24 hours a day. You do not have to walk to many places, so you can save a lot of time. But there are still some disadvantages(缺点), too. For example, you can not see the products or check their quality(质量) yourself.

In my opinion, if you want to do some shopping online, you must be careful. You should think about the

company (公司) and the price. You’d better talk about it with your parents or your friends before you pay for it.

Dear Tom,

I’m glad to hear that you are visiting Beijing during your winter vacation(假期). So I’d like to tell you something about this great city.

Beijing is the capital of China. It lies in the north of the country and it is famous for many places of great interest, such as the Great Wall, the Summer Palace and so on. Many foreign friends(很多外国朋友) enjoy not only the famous places but also Chinese food. When you come, I will take you around Beijing and taste some traditional Chinese food(中国传统食物), such as Beijing Roast Duck(北京烤鸭), noodles and dumplings. Beijing always gives a wonderful welcome to everyone from all over the world. I’m sure you will have a good time here.

I’m looking forward to(盼望着) your visit!

Best wishes!

I am glad that I entered(加入) the school photo competition(比赛) and won the first prize. The photo of the Great Wall which gets the first prize was taken when our teacher took us to the Great Wall last autumn.

In my photo, you can get a very clear view(视野) of the wall. It is also one of the few man-made wonders in the world. It is about 6,700 kilometers long and 6 - 7 meters high.

The Great Wall is not very far from the centre(中心) of Beijing City. It has become the symbol of China. We all know the famous Chinese saying “He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man.” So go to climb up the Great Wall if you want to become a true man.

My name is Zhang Qiang, from Class 4, Grade 3. As we all know, the Earth is our home, so it is important to protect(保护) the environment. As middle school students, I think we can do something to protect our environment in our daily life(日常生活).

First, we can save as much energy(能源) as possible. For example, we can go to school by bike instead(代替) of by car. It is not only good for the environment but also for our health. I usually ride to school or walk to school. I can breathe(呼吸) the fresh air(新鲜空气) and keep healthy while riding. Second, we can recycle (回收利用) the waste(垃圾) daily. I always divide(分开) the waste into different groups before throwing it away. The paper and plastic(塑料的) bottles (瓶子) can be recycled and changed into other things. They help to save energy. Third, we can plant more trees to make our environment greener and cleaner.

In a word, it’s our duty(责任) to protect the environment. Please join us and take action(采取行动). Let’s do something useful from now on. If everyone starts to do something, the world will be saved.

Dear Mary,

very clear and we enjoyed the bright sunshine(明媚的阳光) all over the city. We need to protect the blue sky because pollution(污染) is dangerous(危险的) to our health.

In order to keep APEC blue for a long time, we should take some simple steps(简单的步骤) now. First, we can take a bus or a subway to go to school instead(代替) of taking a car. Second, we’d better use cloth bags since they can be reused(重复利用) many times. Third, we can make some posters that will help more people know the importance of the air protection(保护). Yours,

Li Ming

It’s very important for everyone to be healthy. Doing sports and having a good living habit are both necessary for us.

Sports can make people healthy. So we should do more sports when we are free. If you want to be strong, play basketball. Of course, going for a walk after dinner is also a good way to keep fit. It can stop us getting fatter. Good living habit is also necessary. We should eat and drink healthily. Eat more vegetables and fruit. Drink water instead of Coke and coffee. Go to bed early and get up early every day. What’s more, we need to keep happy all the time.

Have a try! You will be much healthier than before.

Dear Mike,

I’m very glad you are coming to China for a visit this summer vacation.

Here, I’d like to talk about some Chinese customs. China is a country with a long history, so we have many kinds of customs in our everyday life. Firstly, if you go to a party, you are supposed to arrive at the party on time, or a few minutes earlier. Secondly, people usually shake hands when you meet someone for the first time. Thirdly, it is taboo for you to give a clock or a watch to your friends as a present, because it is unlucky in China. Finally, when you are having dinner with other people, it’s rude to point at others with your chopsticks.

So if you come to China, you can make friends with the local people and follow the customs. And I will be happy if you have any questions to ask me. I hope you will enjoy your stay here.

Dear Peter,

It’s really nice to hear from you. And I’m sorry to hear that you have some problems with your English study. It’s really not easy to learn English well. However, if you study in a right way and work hard at it, you will make progress quickly. Here is some advice for you.

First, don’t worry if you can’t understand every word. It doesn’t matter if you only understand the main ideas. Second, you’d better try to speak to others in English as much as possible. It will help you improve your listening skills. Third, if you still can’t understand your teachers well, you’d better ask them to speak more slowly. Anyway, don’t give up. I hope my advice will be useful for you.

Good luck!

My Mother

My mother is very kind and easygoing. She helps me a lot. She takes good care of my daily life. For example, every morning, she wakes me up and cooks breakfast for me. When I’m in trouble, she always encourages me to face the difficulties and cheers me up. I still remember that once I argued with my best friend and was upset. My mother talked with me the whole night and finally helped me solve the problem. With her help, I became a top student in my class. I’m very thankful for all that she has done for me. I believe she will be proud of me in the near future.

6 My Teacher
