Specific Details

• The apple tasted good.

• the apple’s skin was of the apple ran down his chin. The taste of the meat was as sweet as candy.

1. Describe a scene

A heavy rain

• Presently the sky was full of black clouds.

• The wind was blowing harder and harder, and the leaves of trees rustled.

• Suddenly, there was a flash of lightening in the sky, and a terrible thunder began to roar overhead.

• In no time, a brilliant stripe of light filled the sky, and the sky was full of roars of thunder.

• A drop of rain fell, then another, and soon the rain poured down on the leaves of trees and the roofs with a noise which is like the beating of small drums.

• The lightening, the thunder, and the rain all came suddenly.

An autumn morning

• Several white clouds skid past the light blue sky. In the garden, red maple leaves fall down from the trees, just like

swirling butterflies. In the field, the golden wheat nod as if the hair of a blond girl dance in a gentle wind. In the orchard, apples like small red lanterns hang on the branches of trees, emitting waves of sweet smell. The

laborious farmers, with happy smile on their faces, are busy reaping the fruits of their hard work. It’s really a beautiful autumn morning of rich harvest.

A Crowded Bus

• Though the windows are open, there is little fresh air in the bus. The lack of space is obvious in any corner of the bus. Shoulders against shoulders, backs against backs,

everyone has no extra room except for two feet. The bus is so packed that you don’t have to hold the rails even though the bus brakes hard. If you stand beside a tall man, you could hear his heart beating. Worst of all, sometimes you could not get off the bus when your destination is reached. Working your way through the masses is definitely not an easy task.

• • It was early in the spring morning.

• The sun was just rising out of the eastern horizon,

emitting streaks of red hue through the clouds and across the sky.

• Soon the campus was bathed in the first rays of the sun. The lake and the surrounding wood looked as if they were all gilded.

• Birds flew about in the wood twittering restlessly.

• The ground was covered with tender grass and the dewdrops stood on the tips and reflected the sunshine.

• Some boy students who were absorbed in reading leaned against trees whose buds peep out from within the grey bark.

• A couple of girls read English aloud while walking up and down the gravel path around the lake.

• It was really a morning of beauty, of vigor and of hope.

2. Describe a man or an animal

My Ex-roommate

• Living with my ex-roommate was unbearable. First, she thought everything she owned, from clothes to cosmetics, was the best. If someone complimented my pants, she’d point out that her designer jeans looked better and would last longer because they were made of better material. If she borrowed my shampoo, she’d let me know that it did not get her hair as clean and shiny as hers did. My hand cream was not as smooth; my suntan lotion was not as protective. Despite her pickiness about products, she also had

numerous filthy habits. Her dirty dishes remained in the sink for ages before she got the incentive to wash them. Piles of the “best” brand of tissues were regularly discarded from her upper bunk and strewn about the floor. Her desk and closets overflowed with heaps of dirty clothes, books, cosmetics, and whatever else she owned. What is more, she rarely brushed her teeth.Living with such a person

taught me some valuable lessons about how to win friends or keep roommates.

My Cat

• My cat Didi communicates her feelings through various body and tail positions and facial expressions. When she’s contented, she often lies on her chest with eyes half closed. And to invite play or petting, she rolls over on one side and waves a paw in the air. When she raises her tail vertically or bumps her head against me, or licks my extended hand, she’s either greeting me or trying to be friendly. If she’s angry or frightened, Didi flicks her tail from side to side, arches her back, folds back her ears and puffs up her fur. But when I am angry at her or she has caused me troubles, Didi never fails to look submissive by crouching down, flattening her ears, and avoiding direct eye contact.
