A happy event

What it was, where it was held, who went to the event and why it was a happy event

Let me talk about my graduation ceremony. Actually the ceremony was very short and kind of too formal but still, it was a happy event.

On that day, my classmates and I were all dressed in caps and gowns and arrived early. Our parents and friends also came, with bouquets or gifts in their hands. After the guests were seated, we lined up in order and walked in. then the principal and some guest speakers delivered speeches and some awards were presented.

The most important part of the ceremony was, obviously, the awarding of diplomas, when the students got called up to the podium, one by one, shook hands with the principal and received our diploma. Unfortunately, a couple of my classmates failed to get enough credits so they didn’t get a diploma. Then after the ceremony, I took lots and lots of pictures with my classmates, because I knew graduation would be the end of the years with these wonderful friends of mine.

The graduation ceremony was not just a happy ending to a past academic experience, it also marked the beginning of a whole new stage, probably an even more challenging one in my life.

A wedding you have attended

When it was, who got married , what happened at the wedding and explain whether it was a typical wedding

A friend of mine got married last month. I went to her wedding ceremony. It was held in a church and began at 9 in the morning. It was a typical western-style ceremony, pretty simple but solemn.

The officiant made some opening remarks. Then the groom, in a black tuxedo, made his way to the altar with the best man and waited there.

When the Wedding March was played, the bride’s attendants entered, including the maid of honor and the flower girl. My friend, you know, the bride, entered last in her white wedding dress, escorted by her father.

I was so moved watching my friend walking down the aisle. Then her father left her at the altar with the groom.

After the altar, the couple exchanged wedding vows and wedding rings. Then they kisses and were pronounced husband and wife

After the grand entrance, cocktails and food were served. People proposed toasts and gave the new couple their best wishes. I was sitting next to the groom’s father and he told me lots of fun stories about his family.

Then the dancing began. The bride and groom did the first dance. They looked wonderful together and everyone could tell they were deeply in love. The music was slow and it felt so romantic.

A while later, my favorite part, the cake-cutting! The cake was huge and delicious and everyone got a bite.

The most exciting part was probably when the bride tossed her bouquet to the single ladies there because the girl who got the bouquet was supposed to be the next to marry. All girls tried to become the lucky one but, you know what , a 9-year-old ended up catching it.

At the end of the reception, all of us gathered in circle and sang happy songs…

That was a really memorable experience.

A performance or a show.(such as a dancing or singing performance)

What kind of performance/show it was, when and where you watched it who you watched it with and how you felt about it

I went to …’s concert last Friday night. It was held at the Worker’s Stadium. I’d long been a big fan of them so when a friend of mine got me a ticket to their concert, I was like, “Wow ” and I felt like I was on top of the world

I just couldn’t wait till Friday came around. My friend and I made a huge poster with the members’

names on them, to hold up during the concert.

It turned out that not just young folks went there. Actually, the concert attracted people of all ages. One more reason for me to feel proud of the band. The stadium was totally packed!

The when the band actually took the stage, we went fanatical. They were amazing performers. They played some songs from many of their albums, including their latest album, and even played some acoustic songs, which was pretty much the highlight of the concert. The live music and the thrill of just being there were incredible.

We sang along with the band and screamed their names at the top of our lungs. And you know what? The singers even noticed our poster and waved at us when they were on stage.

It was a blast!

An activity in an English lesson( presentation/ interesting speech)

What the activity was, what you learned from this activity, why you enjoyed it and whether you would like to do a similar activity again

Last week, our English teacher asked us to prepare for a presentation on the differences among some British writers and their works. He told us how we should structure our presentation and then divided us into pairs.

So after class, my teammate and I went to the library and checked out a whole bunch of books on those writers. After that, we read the materials thoroughly and figured out what we would present. Then we started making visual aids. You know, we used Power Point to make the information we were going to present more memorable. We also made some note cards to guide the direction of the presentation.

During the actual presentation, my teammate did the introduction and then managed the aids while I presented our findings. At first, I was a bit nervous up in front of the class. But gradually I began to feel at ease. When I forgot what I should say next, I just glanced down at the note cards and then I remembered what I was supposed to say.

My teacher and my classmates were totally impressed with our knowledge. So after we finished the presentation, some of them approached us right away to compliment us on our performance.

I learned a lot from that experience, like preparation could really make all the difference between a good and a bad presentation.

I’m looking forward to our next presentation now.

A festival

What the festival is ,what people do during this festival, whether people celebrate this festival in the same way and why this festival is important.

The Duan Wu Festival has become even more popular since it became a public holiday in China.

This festival has long been associated with a famous poet in history, who was so worried about his country that he drowned himself. On this festival, people all across China eat rice balls (or in Chinese, zong zi), to pay tribute to this poet. People love those who love their country, right ?

Another thing often associated with this festival is the dragon boat races. It’s like a number of teams rowing and competing against one another. To be honest, I’ve only watched boat races on TV. It seems like such races are rare in cities. But from what I saw on TV, I could tell they were very vibrant events.

As I see it, the Duan Wu Festival is about vitality, about the circle of life.
