Beijing, China

Dear Miss Zhang,

It is a pleasure to write this letter because it gives me an opportunity to tell you how much I enjoyed your hospitality during my seven-day holiday in October. It was my first visit to Beijing. At first, I was very anxious about my trip as I knew little about it. Then I saw you and your parents waiting for me at the station with warm smiles of welcome on your faces, I immediately knew that everything was going to be all right. You and your wonderful parents put me at ease right away.

There are many happy memories of this holiday that I will keep with me forever. Above all, I will remember that I was offered a lot of delicious food I have ever had. There are so many new and different things in Beijing for me to see and do. I particularly enjoyed driving around the city along the inter-city express-ways or flyovers 立交桥 and seeing the big buildings one after another. I also had a very good time at the Great Wall and Forbidden City. They are really something in the world that nothing can be compared with. Another deep impression is that I enjoyed taking a walk with you along the beautiful street with grass and flowers where I can see people dancing around and children playing hide-and-seek games. I cannot forget how happy and harmonious they felt.

I am back at school again now and I am very happy because I know now I have a very good friend there in Beijing and a nice family. And it is one of the nicest families I have ever met. You don't know how much I want to thank you and your parents. I hope someday you will visit my hometown and I can return your hospitality.

Remember me to your parents.

All my best wishes

Sincerely yours, Li Ying

Dear Personnel Manager,

I noticed your ad for a newsletter editor in the October 29 New York Sun. Because writing and publication work have long been interests of mine, I wish to apply for this position.

I believe both my education and work experience qualify me for the job. In 1989 I earned my BA degree with a major in English and a minor in journalism. While in school, I was the sports editor on the campus newspaper and the senior editor for the campus literary magazine. Since

4 graduation, I have written and edited the monthly bulletin of the Middletown Press.

Your ad noted that applicants must be able to start immediately and be willing to relocate. I am in a position to do both of these.

I am currently available for an interview any weekday after 3:00 p.m. You can reach me at my home phone, 555-7390, any day after 3:00 p.m. I look forward to hearing from you, and I thank you for your attention.

There was no unusual damage to the packing case, but when I opened it, I found that the lid of the recorder had been of the machine had been .

Since there was such damage to the goods, I decided to file a complaint against the delivery service. return the recorder to you for a replacement or if you have an authorized service representative here to which I should take it? I will hold onto the recorder until I hear from you.
