Should Food Be Banned on the Subway?

Currently, some cities are considering a food ban on subways, which has sparked heated discussion. Some people say food should be banned because of the trash and rats they attract. And, garbage from discarded food can cause track fires. Beyond sanitary and mechanical concerns, food can also fiiel fist fights, as was discovered last week by one passenger who criticized a woman eating steamed stuffed bun on the subway.

However, some others are opposed to the idea. They argue that people like eating in the train in the morning because they don ’t have enough time to eat at their houses or restaurants. Sometimes that may be the only time or meal a transit rider may be able to eat especially when traveling long distances. Besides, there are people, for example diabetics, who do require food at various times to maintain blood-sugar levels.

Personally, rm against the ban because of the huge inconvenience it would cause commuters, and the expense involved in enforcing it. Still, I believe we should have a little common courtesy. I

think we all have responsibility to try to treat our subway system and fellow riders with respect,

and that extends to food as well.

Save Money or Borrow Money?

Mentioning money, some people like to deposit it in the bank, while others like to consume it in advance. Money saved by people is mainly for: buying a house; in case of emergencies or diseases, car accidents, unemployment, earthquakes, and things like that; in case of college expenses of their children; for retirement, and so on. People believe that saving money is essential to lead a comfortable life. Having money in the bank allows people to pay for vacations or expensive purchases like furniture or doctor bills m cash* With the world entering a consuming era, many people, especially young white-collars and college students, choose to borrow money. Id other words, they spend money in advance _ use credit cards and pay back the loan and interest on the next payday. They argue that: first, they could enjoy the convenience of credit cards and purchase expensive goods by mstal^uents. Second, many banks make some preferential policies on credit cards, like sending a. gift or lowering year cost* which is a big attraction, On my personal level, I approve of saving money — in case of emergency, you do not need to turn to others for help, at least. And Vm opposed to the abuse of credit cards among

college students. Since in most cases, parents arc their sole ftnandal sources.

Does Higher Education Cease to Be Useful?

In the current climate of rising college fees and tight job market, the functions of higher education is arousing public concern. Having a degree or not seems not to make any difference to our life and may not necessarily guarantee a good job and income.

Students who attend higher education obtain a wide range of personal, financial and other lifelong benefits. First of all, the whole experiences of university life including all the academic lectures and social practices forge our personality and cultivate such virtues as cooperativeness and openness. In addition, according to the statistics, there is a trendy correlation between higher level of education and higher earnings despite the fierce job hunting competition. University is a huge advantage if we need to acquire expertise to practice in a meaningful profession.

In my opinion, it would be wise to attend university. Having a decent degree and being broadly intelligent may not guarantee us success, but it makes us a candidate.

Student Investors ID the Stock Market

China ’s stock market is luring students looking to sec how their textbook teachings fare in real life. While there arc no concrete data on the student- investor, business professors say the market boom has boosted the number of students looking to play around with stocks. They invest in the stock market with money from parents and sometimes with amount equal to several times their annual tuition.

Some people are alarmed at the trend. As investing in the stock market involves many risks, they say, college students are very likely to lose, which may put students' &miiy assets at risk. However, some are supportive. As more and more students become sbarebolders, they will help raise tie general quality of shareholders and there will be more rational stock buyers in securities market, which is actually a good thing.

In my view, college students may give stock investment a try if possible. Stock investment may be a way to make fast money and help finance students* schooling. Even if the students are likely to lose in the stock market, it may still bring about valuable investment experience — they can、learn if they don’t tiy.

China has decided to end its decades-long one-child policy. All couples are allowed to have two children. This decision has aroused much chatter—whether it is high time that China should carry out the universal two-child policy or not. As far as I am concerned, this policy is in line with China’s domestic situations.

Speaking from a macro perspective, this policy is a timely adjustment to China ’s changing situations. The aging population has been posing a threat to the sustainable and healthy development of China. This policy will optimize the demographic structure, increase the labor force, ease the pressure of aging population and ensure the sustainable and healthy development of the economy and society.

Speaking from a micro one, as the odds of having a weak elderly parent and all the attendant need for physical and financial assistance have jumped many times in just one generation, this policy will bring about many benefits to the family in the long run. In spite of the fact that child rearing is anything less than an easy task, the disadvantages, such as temporarily economic burden, seem to be pale compared with the benefits. The second child, at least, will accompany his or her sibling and in the future, they will share the responsibility to support and care for their old parents.

Honesty is one of the most precious virtues in the world, which renders the world we live in dependable. Nevertheless, these days Wei Zexi Event has been heatedly debated online and unfortunately, the situation seems to be worsening, inevitably leading us to doubt the credibility of the information on websites and in some way the reputation of the enterprises advertised online being impugned. What we need badly is enterprises that can be really responsible to the consumers and keep their promises. Only such enterprises can cultivate entrepreneurs of high integrity and shoulder the responsibility to revitalize our nation.

As a consequence, honesty is not something that we can afford to lose or leave at large. It is imperative that corresponding regulations and mechanisms with the joint efforts of the media should be introduced and enforced to promote honesty by authorities. The awareness of honesty ought to be enhanced, which will lead us to make every effort to keep our promises and avoid such tragedies as Wei Zexi Event. Only in a reasonable, prosperous and healthy atmosphere can we ensure that people can enjoy their life to the utmost.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled My View on Spending Craze During Graduation by commenting on the phenomenon that graduates often spend a lot during the graduation period. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

My View on Spending Craze During Graduation

① In recent years, there is a growing concern for the spending craze during

graduation. Thefarewell dinners, which once symbolized a celebration of the

four-year friendship and the bitterness of pending departure, pose a gigantic

financial burden on the graduates.

②A number of factors can account for such phenomenon, but the following might be the critical ones. ③Firstly, it’s an undeniable truth that today’s college students tend to spend much more money than before. ③What ’s more, the farewell dinners are held in the name of more and more social groups, such as classes, college societies, dormitories and etc.

④In my view, the problem mentioned above has become increasingly severe, so great concern is deserved and effective measures are called for. ⑤To begin with, it is essential that the school should attach more importance to teaching the concept of thrift. ⑤Secondly, students should enhance their awareness that money never stands for affection. ⑥Only with these measures taken, I’m convinced, can the craze of spending during graduation be eased.

Aid Education in China

Each year, college students, encouraged to aid students in the poverty-stricken areas, volunteer themselves in poor villages for a year and try to improve education in poor areas.

Aid-education has been beneficial in two aspects. On the one hand, college volunteers are

really devoted to the cause. They have opened the eyes of students in underdeveloped regions to

the outside world by bringing them new knowledge and thoughts. As a result, they are extremely well-received by the children there. On the other hand, college students have received a rigorous training by adapting to the harsh living conditions. They are enjoying the appreciation and no-distance friendship from the children. What's more, they are greatly inspired by the moving and tireless spirit of the children.

In my opinion, China's educational development can't be isolated from each individual and we college students should take the lead in response to the appeal for offering aid to children in poor areas.

In recent years, there are more and more people who have participated in the test for national civil servants. Millions of students choose civil servant as their most ideal occupation after graduation. And among them, the high-educated, like masters and doctors, take quite a large percentage. The craze in civil servant test has attracted widespread attention. The following reasons can account for this kind of craze. Above all, nowadays college students face great employment pressure. Civil servant, as one of the most stable professions in today’s China, becomes their preferable choice. Moreover, in recent years, the welfare and salary of civil servants have been improved greatly, which undoubtedly attracts many people. Besides, the high social position of civil servants is an important factor drawing many people to take part in the civil servant test. In my opinion, this craze in civil servant test will continue in the following years. However, from the long run, it doesn’t do good to the development of the nation. If most high quality talents gather in the government departments, it might lead to a waste of resources. Therefore, both the individuals and the government should have a more objective recognition of the civil servant test craze.

Overseas Study

The discussion about overseas study has never stopped in the past few years. Let‘s have a look at its advantages and disadvantages before drawing the final conclusion.

The biggest advantage of studying overseas is the higher academic level and advanced research facilities. What’s more, by understanding a new culture and meeting different people, students can develop a more reasonable and balanced view towards the world. Last but not least, the experience will be invaluable to character building, which makes most students more independent, diligent and enterprising.

However, the negative effects are also obvious. To begin with, if a person does not make full preparations before going abroad, he will have great difficulty adapting to the new environment. In the second place, the cultural differences will hinder the regular life in many ways. Finally, money is always a big problem. Many students have to find part time jobs to earn money to pay tuition and fees.

In conclusion, the advantages of overseas study outweigh disadvantages. Once they return

home, the overseas students will make great contributions to our motherland.

③enterprisinga.

④have difficulty (in) doing sth.

⑤hinderv.

⑥make contributions to our motherland为祖国作出贡献

My View on Online Education.

Being online is no longer something new or fresh in our life. To some extent, it has become part of our daily life. We can do a lot of things online, such as searching for information and communicating with friends far away. But recently another helpful online activity has become very "in". That is online education.

Why could online education be so popular within such a short period of time? Among other reasons, the quick development of the Internet should be an essential one, which makes all our dreams of attending class in the distance possible. Another underlying reason is the quick development of both society and technology. T oday, modern science and technology is developing with fantastic speed. To catch up with this development we all feel an urgent and strong desire to study. However, due to the great pace of modern society, many people are too busy to study full time at school. Online education just comes to their aid.

Personally, I appreciate this new form of education. It's indeed a helpful complement to the traditional educational means. It can provide different learners with more flexible and versatile ways of learning. Best of all, with online education, we can stick to our jobs and at the same time study and absorb the latest knowledge..

Choosing an Occupation.

Choosing an Occupation

One of the most important problems a young person faces is deciding what to do. There are some people, of course, who from the time they are six years old "know" that they want to be

doctors or pilots or fire fighters, but the majority of us do not get around to making a decision about an occupation or career until somebody or something forces us to face the problem.

Choosing an occupation takes time, and there are a lot of things you have to think about as you try to decide what you would like to do. You may find that you will have to take special courses to qualify for a particular kind of work, or you may find out that you will need to get actual work experience to gain enough knowledge to qualify for a particular job.

Fortunately, there are a lot of people you can turn to for advice and help in making your decision. At most schools, there are teachers who are professionally qualified to give you detailed information about job qualifications. And you can talk over your ideas with family members and friends who are always ready to listen and to offer suggestions.

With the increase of the number of graduated college students, the grim employment situation is becoming a hot topic. Why such a phenomenon occurs? Except for some social factors, there are many important affecting factors can be found on the job-hunters themselves.

When a graduate hunts for a job, he has to take the priority issue of a few significant factors into consideration, such as the pay, the specific field, the location and personal hobbies. It is reasonable. However, most of graduates usually combone all these factors toghther. In their opinions, the pay should take the first place, since they have been spending the money of the family all the time, and it’s time to do something as the reward to other family members. Besides, a high pay usually means a relatively high position in the company; the major is the number one element as well, since it would be a big waste of what they have learned in college, if they deviate from it. Meanwhile, they want to chose work which can agree with their interest and preference. Still they offer the pride of place to the location of the job and the nature of the work unit. They believe that big cities like Beijing or Shanghai will provide more opportunities, and a public situation will offer better welfare. Thereby they have to waif for employment, although they have graduated for several months.

For my part, I believe that there is more than one way to Rome, so is the way of job-hunting. The ideal mehhod for being employed is to learn to make intelligent trade-offs.
