中考八大话题之五-----难忘的人或事(谈经历)

Dear Student,

My name is Bob. I live in Toronto, Canada, and I want a pen pal in China. I think China is a very interesting country. I’m 14 years old and my birthday is in November. I can speak English and a little French. I have a brother, Paul, and a sister, Sarah. They have pen pals in the United Kingdom and Australia. I like going to the movies with my friends and playing sports. My favorite subject in school is P.E. It’s fun. But I don’t like math. It’s too difficult. Can you write to me soon?

Bob

1). Dear Isabel,

Thank you for your last letter. Here are photos of me and my twin sister Liu Ying. As you can see, in some ways we look the same, and in some ways we look different. We both have black eyes and black hair, although my hair is shorter than hers. We both like sports, although Liu Y ing is more

athletic than me. She’s more outgoing, and I’m quieter. However, we both enjoy going to parties.

Please visit us soon!

Love,

Liu Li

Some friends have opposite views and interests, and some like the same things. What is your opinion? Should friends be different or the same? We asked some people what they think and this is what they said.

I like to have friends who are like me. I’m quieter than most of the kids in my class, and my best friend Yuan Li is quiet, too. There are some differences, though. I’m more smarter than Yuan Li. She’s more athletic.

James Green

It’s not necessary to be the same. I like to have friends who are different from me. My best friend Larry is taller and more outgoing than me. We both like sports, but Larry is more athletic than me. He always beats me in tennis. Also, I’m quieter than he is.

Huang Lei

I don’t really care. My best friend is Carol. Carol is very funny, and more outgoing than I am. But we both like doing the same things. I don’t think differences are important in a friendship.

My dream job

When I grow up, I’m going to do what I want to do. I’m going to move somewhere interesting. Paris sounds like a city that I could enjoy. They have lots of fashion shows there.

2

I want to be a reporter for a fashion magazine. So how am I going to do it? First, I’m going to find a part-time job for a year or two and save some money. Then I’m going to be a student at an art school in Paris. And I’m going to study French at the same time. Next, I’m going to hold art exhibitions because I want to be rich and famous. I’m going to buy a big house with the money and I’m going to travel all over the world. Finally, I’m going to retire somewhere quiet and beautiful.

In ten years, I think I'll be a reporter. I'll live in Shanghai, because I went to Shanghai last

year and fell in love with it. I think it’s really a beautiful city. As a reporter, I think I will meet lots of interesting people, I think I'll live in an apartment with my best friends, because I don't like living alone. I'll have pets. I can't have any pets now because my mother hates them, and our apartment is too small. So in ten years, I'll have many different pets, I might even keep a pet parrot! I'll probably go skating and swimming every day. During the week I’ll look smart, and probably will wear a suit. At the weekends, I’ll be able to dress more casually. I think I'll

go to Hong Kong on vacation, and one day I might even visit Australia. To Play or Not to Play

Many very good soccer players don’t want to become professional athletes. Some of them

don’t want to travel. Others don’t like to have to spend time away from their families. There are some who realize their chosen sport can be very dangerous, and that they can be hurt very badly. However, if you become a champion athlete, then you can make a living by doing something that you love. Some champions, like the golfer Tiger Woods, make millions of dollars a year.

Professional athletes usually become famous. Some of them think that this will make

them happy, but they sometimes find that they are famous for only a short time. If they become famous, people will watch them all the time and follow them everywhere. This can make life difficult.

If you become a professional athlete, people all over the world will know you. Then you

can help others. You can become a model for younger people who will look up to you. Many famous athletes give their money to school and charities, and do a lot of work to help people who are not as lucky as themselves.

Dear Laura,

Thanks for your message. Yes, I'm having a great time on my exchange program in France. It's even better than I thought it would be. I was a bit nervous before I arrived here, but there was no reason to be. My host family is really nice. They go out of their way to make me feel at home. And you wouldn't believe how quickly my French has improved! I'm very comfortable speaking French now. Although I still make lots of mistakes, it doesn't bother me like it used to. My biggest challenge is learning how to behave at the dinner table. As you can imagine, things are really different from the way they are at home. For example, you're not supposed to put your bread on your plate, you're supposed to put it on the table! I thought that was pretty strange at first, but now I'm used to it. You're not supposed to eat anything with your hands except bread, not even fruit! (You have to cut it up and eat it with a fork.) Another

thing is that it is very rude to say you're full. If you don't want any more food, you should just say, “It was delicious.” Also, it's rude to put your hands in your lap. You should always keep your hands, but not your elbows, on the table. I have to say, I find it difficult to remember everything, but I'm gradually getting used to things, and don't find them so strange any more. I'll write soon and tell you more about life in France. Hope you're having a good school year.

but these days I get up early and stay in school all day. Then I go right

home and eat dinner. Before I started high school, I used to spend a lot of time playing games with my friends, but I just don’t have the time anymore. In the evening, I used to watch TV or chat with my grandmother, but now I have to study. I love music, and my father used to take me to concerts. These days, I hardly ever have time for concert. I do my homework and go to bed. I really miss the old days.
