Dear Steven,

I ’m glad to hear that you will come to China soon. There’re many differences between Chinese families and American families. First, we have no afternoon tea. But if you are hungry or thirsty, you can ask them to something delicious. And second, when you accept a present, you should accept it with both hands. And open that later. Third, you mustn’t do any cleaning on the first day of the Spring Festival, even clean your own room. And you can’t call elder’s name. They may be angry.

Take it easy. I’m sure you will get on well with them.

Yours,

Li Ping

Dear Steven,

I ’m glad to hear that you will come to China soon. Chinese are very kind, so you can ’t be serious and nervous with them. But here’s something important that you should pay attention in a home of a Chinese student ’s.

For the meeting manner, you must bow when you meet an elder people, and say hello. But when you meet someone that their age is almost same as you, you can just bow a little or shake hands to them.

For the table manner, you must wait for the elders to move the chopsticks before you begin to eat. In the informal situation, you can make noise to eat soup or noodles, because that can express you like the food very much. But in the formal situation, you can’t, because if you making noise that means you are not very respectly.

China is a traditional country, and there are lots of traditions you can learn.

Take it easy. I’m sure you will get on well with them.

Yours,

Li Ping

Dear Steven,

I ’m glad to hear that you will come to China soon. It’s great to stay with a Chinese family because Chinese people are very friendly. But there are some differences between Chinese people and American people. If you know these well, there will be no problem with your stay in a Chinese family.

First, don’t call the mother or the father’s name. They will be glad if you call them Mum or Dad. Second, prepare a little gift of the family. Give it to them when you get to their home. Third, eat together. Remember, don’t start eating before the parents do at meals unleass they ask you to do so. Above all, tell them beforehand if you can’t get home on time.

Take it easy. I’m sure you will get on well with them.

Yours, Li Ping
